As a photographer and brand ambassador for companies like Roark and The North Face, Dylan Gordon has traveled the world capturing images of surfers and shapers like Anna Ehrgott, Ivah Wilmont and Ryan Lovelace. His portfolio features images from all over the globe, from Russia to Thailand, and his home in Ventura, California—filled with motorbikes, surfboards, cowboy hats and vinyl records—looks like it was set dressed to exemplify the archetypal American male. Rugged, academic and thoughtful. When the Southern California wildfires of 2017 ripped through Los Angeles and Ventura counties, the devastation hit close to home. Shortly thereafter, he cofounded Help California, an organization dedicated to helping neighbors and communities in need.
Dylan’s story of activism caught the attention of environmentalist Erika Gilsdorf, who just this year embarked on a journey around the country to identify people who are positively impacting their communities and the world. With her Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV towing a sustainably crafted tiny house, Erika plans to stay on her electric road trip all year. While she will be interviewing a number of different change makers, Dylan’s story—along with the story of husband and wife author Trevor and Maddie Gordon—are the focus of a new series from Golden State and Mitsubishi Motors called Soul Pursuits. You can watch Dylan’s episode above, with the second episode launching on Earth Day, April 22.
