Girls Who Surf™ highlights rad female surfers all over the world – exploring their passion for surfing and what it means to them. Meet Liv Stokes, a surfer based in Orange County, CA & listen to her story here.
Hi, my name’s Liv and I’m a Girl Who Surfs.
Where are you from and how long have you been surfing?
I’m from Orange County, California and I’ve been surfing for 13 years. I’m from Aliso Viejo, which is just inland of Laguna Beach.
Why do you surf and what does it mean you?
I like surfing just because it’s really fun. There’s nothing I love more than paddling out when I’m having a bad day and I just really love the lifestyle that comes along with it. I’ve met some incredible people through surfing and I’ve been able to go to some amazing places that I wouldn’t be able to go to. Right now I’m in Panama and I’m having the most fun.
Describe your hometown and what it is like being a surfer there.
What I really like most about living there is how central it is. I can go an hour and I surf Oceanside a lot. I love Oceanside harbor or I can go up north to LA and surf Malibu or surf Topanga. It’s really fun to surf where I live in Orange County also – like Doheney or San O.
What is your favorite local surf spot and why?
My favorite spot isn’t super local. It’s about 40 minutes away, but I love surfing Oceanside Harbor. It has such a fun right, it’s never super crowded.
What do you love about your local female surf community?
My local female surf community, we really work hard. We do both things – we uplift each other in and out of the water. When we’re surfing heats together, we’re super competitive. We all want to win, but I think that that really helps us push our surfing and progresses female surfing to the next level.
