Joseph Creech began cooking tacos de suadero—tacos with slow-cooked beef brisket—to satisfy his wife’s yearning for this culinary specialty from her hometown of Mexico City. Today, Hunger Street Tacos, located in Winter Park, is built on this labor of love and named after the place that inspires its menu and atmosphere: La Calle del Hambre.
Born in Guadalajara but raised in Florida, Creech returned to Mexico City as a young man. While there, he discovered the fresh, made-from-scratch flavors of the ubiquitous taco and quesadilla stands. It’s also where he met his wife, Seydi Plata, a Mexico City native who shared his appreciation for the city’s legendary street food and colorful murals. Together with Joseph’s brother, David, who also spent time learning the culinary arts in Mexico, the trio brings all they’ve learned about traditional cooking methods to Hunger Street Tacos’ varied menu of authentic Mexican dishes, including Seydi’s favorite, the taco de suadero.
