Panheads

Dining with a group and can’t decide which pizza to order? Try a pizza flight at Panheads Pizzeria. This genius idea will let you and your friends try four different types of pie in one sheet pan.

Located in the historic Canal St. district of New Smyrna Beach, chef Eric Ross pays homage to his beloved grandmother Mabel’s pizza recipes with a crowd-pleasing way to sample the menu.

Even the bricks from grandma Mabel’s original pizza oven were used in the restaurant’s current configuration. But it’s not just about the pies here.

On any given day, you might see owner-chef Ross joyfully hand-cutting his freshly made gnocchi—also a recipe from grandma—and rolling out the dough using replicas of her original rolling pin. (The original is signed and now a precious keepsake.) In keeping with Florida’s reputation for great BBQ, slow-smoked meats are also on the menu, spiced with the rubs and seasonings Ross makes in-house.

Panheads’ unique story and techniques recently caught the eye of Food Network’s Guy Fieri and was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

This episode is part of our original series, “Florida’s Table,” produced in partnership with VISIT FLORIDA.
