Spring travel plans are underway whether you are looking to book a family vacation to Disney World, take a break with a friend to Las Vegas or go on a solo shopping trip to New York.
We consulted an expert to find out what to expect out on the road this season. New survey data released by Vacasa vacation rentals show that nearly two-thirds of Americans (65%) are planning to travel this spring which is an increase from the 56% who traveled in 2022.
In fact, 79% of spring travelers are planning to travel more frequently this season than they did in 2022 with Gen Z and Millennials the most likely to say yes to a trip. On average, those with spring travel plans are expected to take approximately 7 trips throughout the season – most often going on a quick weekend trip, followed by long weekend trips.
Popular Destinations
If you are wondering where they are heading, 76% of those traveling are visiting a destination within the United States. Vacasa offers homes from the central coast of Oregon to Hilton Head, SC and Colorado Springs to San Diego, CA. 45% are going to an international destination, a significant increase from spring 2022, when only 18% of Americans said they had plans to travel internationally.
More than three-quarters of spring travelers are planning on traveling for an upcoming holiday with Easter being the most popular holiday trip, followed closely by Memorial Day. Waterfront destinations are the most common destination type that travelers plan to visit this spring, followed by urban/city destinations and attraction-based destinations such as Las Vegas and Disney World with Destin, FL being the most booked location this Spring.
Last Minute Travel is Out
60% of travelers say they have already booked their accommodations for all or some of their spring vacations, while 55% say the same of their transportation and 53% of their trip experiences, such as shows and restaurant reservations. Consumers who are taking multiple vacations this spring, including for Spring Break, are prioritizing booking their Spring Break travel ahead of their other trips.
