Hero the Band

Family is always first for East Atlanta’s Hero The Band. Composed of brothers Justin, Jerramy, DJ and Nick Barnett, HTB has a sound that can’t be compartmentalized, touching on pop, punk and hip-hop. It’s a flavor reminiscent of Living Color mixed with OutKast and a shot of Imagine Dragons. Influenced by the cultural melting pot that is Atlanta, the brothers have adopted a “play live to survive” mentality since the release of their first single, “Til We Meet Again,” in 2012.

“We had to create our own voice to be heard,” says the band, “and want to be looked at as individuals who make their own decisions, creatively.” In this episode of Sounds of the Road, HTB roll through Inman Park and Poncey-Highlands in a new 2023 Toyota Sequoia Platinum on their way to perform a set at the Drunken Unicorn, a live music venue tucked within the MJQ Concourse.

Sounds of the Road showcases intimate musical performances and candid interviews with some of America’s best rising talent. Season 3 takes us deep into the musical hub of the south: Atlanta, Georgia. Ride along with Decatur’s own Hero the Band, rock ‘n’ roll sisters Rebecca and Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe, and singer-songwriter Amythyst Kiah as they explore the city in three equally unique and stylish Toyota vehicles.
